News Bulletin #1-2021/2022, August 31, 2021

Welcome Back!

The VCTA Executive would like to welcome teachers back to Vanier for the 2021-22 academic year. We hope that you had a wonderful summer and that your semester is off to a great start.

Other than requiring masks at all times (except when eating), making hand sanitizers available and recommending physical distancing, the College is reverting to standard health and safety measures.  If you are sick, you need to declare it to the College via omnivox, if students are sick, they are to get a medical note and you accommodate them accordingly.

We wish you a safe and healthy return to the college.

As always, do not hesitate to come see us if you have any questions or concerns. Our office hours for this semester are posted on the door of the union office C-101 and available on the VCTA website.

Coffee and Union Lounges

Our Union Lounges (C 101 and N 217) are now open, Mondays to Fridays, from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm. Come enjoy the Machu Picchu Fair trade coffee and filtered water that we have on tap. A toaster, microwave oven and tea kettle are also at your disposal.  Please help keep the areas clean.

INFO – Insurance

La Capitale now accepts electronic signatures for all documents.

The Travel Agent Customer Compensation Fund (TVAF) recently announced a commitment to reimburse travel cancelled due to COVID-19, effective September 2021. Therefore, all consumers who purchased a trip through a travel agent in Quebec, and that trip was cancelled due to COVID-19, should be compensated by the VAT Program.

As a result of this news, La Capitale wishes to inform its partners of the end of the exceptional measure it implemented in July 2020 concerning the reimbursement of travel purchased from travel agents and cancelled due to COVID-19. The end of this measure implies a return to the usual treatment of our travel insurance policies, and will be effective as of July 16th 2021.

There will be a GA October 7th with proposed changes to our plan for 2022. Do come.

Negotiations

We thought we had an Agreement in principle, but when the text came back from the government, it did not match what was agreed. So the negotiation committee is back at work. We will keep you posted on any developments.

Labour day demonstrations

As was the case last year, the Conseil Central du Montréal Métropolitain (CCMM-CSN) collaborates with other activist and labour organizations in the region (La Riposte syndicale, the Conseil régional FTQ du Montréal métropolitain, the Syndicat des travailleuses et travailleurs des postes – FTQ, and others) the organization of a demonstration on Labour Day, which will take place on September 6.

This year’s theme is particularly relevant given the political positions of the Conseil Central: «Against capitalism, for a fighting unionism, against special laws, let’s block the PL-59 of the CAQ!». The issue of the reform of the Act on Occupational Health and Safety and the Act on Industrial Accidents and Occupational Diseases will therefore be at the heart of the demands put forward during the demonstration.

VCTA 50th Anniversary

The VCTA is 50 this year! We were accredited on August 27, 1971.  We invite any past member of the executive to make a short video testimonial of their experience with the VCTA. A celebration will be organized when the time is appropriate.
