The Allocation Project

Every year, CRT (the labour relations committee, composed both of the Administration and the VCTA representatives) meets during the Winter semester in order to determine the number of teachers allocated to each discipline for the following academic year. It considers the actual enrolments during the current year and projected registration estimates prepared by the Dean of Admissions Office.

This project must be agreed to by both parties in CRT: if there is no agreement,
the College proceeds with its proposed project and the union may file a
grievance if it believes that the College is breaching the provisions of the
Collective Agreement. After the Fall semester course drop deadline, CRT meets
again to consider adjustments to the allocation project for the Winter semester.

The Volet (“Type” or envelope) Distribution

Teaching resources are allocated to disciplines/departments for (8-4.01):

Volet I: Teaching (course preparation, classroom, labs, stage, support of students, corrections) is based on the linear equations for each program based on the number of hours and students per course and stage (if applicable). Vanier also receives an additional fixed allocation of 4.08 full-time teacher equivalents (FTEs) per year (Collective Agreement, Appendix 2). Release time for the VCTA Executive is currently taken from in volet I.

Volet II: Departmental and program coordination, supervision activities, participation in program activities, program implementation, evaluation and development, participation in institutional development.
Resources for chair release are generated at a ratio of 1 per 18 FTEs in volet 1 and we also receive a fixed allocation of 6.85 FTEs per year.

Volet III: Retraining, research and development, institutional and professional development. We receive a fixed allocation of 1.01 FTEs per year. These can be transfered to other purposes by agreement.

Volet D:  These resources are entirely up to the discretion of the Administration and are intended for the purpose of implementing the College’s strategic plan (“program activities, professional development in a given subject as well as in teaching methods, the organization of fieldwork and workshops, improvement of the student success rate, technology transfer, research and professional integration.” 8-5.06)
